Wohn- und Gewerbehäuser Zwicky-Areal, Wallisellen, 2014—2019, Competition 1st Prize

New district centre

On the converted industrial site an ensemble of existing and new buildings that relate to each other forms a new district centre. Four-storey buildings opposite historical buildings of the same height, and seven-storey buildings opposite the traffic areas exposed to noise create protected, semi-public courtyards.

Arcades along the existing buildings create attractive approaches to small commercial units. 164 rented apartments and studio flats with different characters, ranging in size between 1.5 and 4.5 rooms, offer a variety of housing types.

Facades of solid exposed masonry interpret the construction of the historical buildings opposite, create an atmospheric context, and strengthen the identity of the site.
